Born in the rack, not in the boardroom.
We started Free Range Servers after nearly a decade working in high-density datacenters. We watched providers replace support teams with chatbots and turn the cloud into a place that’s easy to enter and hard to leave. So we built the hosting we couldn’t find anywhere else.
Free Range Servers. An Open Rack company.
Most providers lock you in. We do the opposite.
Your data, your control
Your data stays in the European Union, under Romanian and EU law. Our Data Processing Agreement is public.
Private by default
No telemetry and no agents phoning home. The one agent we ask you to run is the QEMU guest agent: it talks only to the host your server runs on, never over the network, so we can freeze your disks for consistent backups and shut down or restart your server cleanly during maintenance. We supply the hardware; what you run on it is your business.
Human-to-root support
No first-line scripts and no “have you tried restarting?”. You talk to the engineers who built the rack.
Free to leave
Proxmox, KVM and open standards, with no proprietary tooling. If you ever decide to move, nothing holds you back.
One is none. Two is one.
We don’t accept single points of failure in our infrastructure. Most hosts charge extra for redundancy. We build it in: two independent power feeds (A+B), each N+1, N+1 cooling and uplinks, offsite backups, and support that acknowledges every ticket within 16 hours, nights and weekends included.
“If a system isn’t backed up, it doesn’t exist.”

The idea takes shape
Years of hands-on work inside datacenters turn into a plan: IT Republic Data (ITRD), the hosting we wanted as engineers and couldn’t buy anywhere.

Free Range Servers
ITRD reaches its final form as Free Range Servers, and the company becomes OPEN RACK SRL to match.

Chosen for openness, not for the logo.
-
Open-source virtualization, so your VMs are never tied to us.
-
Routing we configure ourselves, down to the last rule.
-
European network capacity and peering, upstream of our rack.
Most hosting is a black box. We built the exit.
For us, the Open Way is an engineering constraint. We stay out of your way and give you a stable, redundant foundation to build on, grow on and, if you ever choose, leave.
